Children's Sabbath

Each October, St. John's celebrates Children's Sabbath, a special worship service associated with the Children's Defense Fund. The Children's Sabbath is led by the children of the church and focuses on young people in our community and in other parts of the world. Please be sure to join us for this special Sunday in October as we honor children everywhere!

Summer Skills Camp

Skills Camp: St. John’s own Dr. Christi Beard teaches this fun physical education camp for children ages 4-6 every summer. The kids enjoy lots of movement and activity in the gym as they play age appropriate games that further develop their motor skills. Check back in the spring of 2017 for the next available camp or contact Sarah Crockford (scrockford@stjohnsrh.org, 327-3113) for additional information.

Noisy Offering

During the 2013 Stewardship Campaign, the “NOISY OFFERING” was introduced to St. Johns. What is a "Noisy Offering"? During worship as the children come to Children’s Sermon they are invited to bring their noisy offering “Love Tins” filled with coins. We will have a Large Tin Bucket at each service and they will be invited to pour their offerings into the bucket during the playing of “Jesus Loves Me”. In this special way they will be calling all of the church to reflect on what it means to give to God’s work through the Church which represents the hands and feet of Jesus in the world, and to do so with great joy! “Love Tins will be available in the lobby if you haven’t gotten yours yet. Our hope is that all children will be encouraged to place coins in the “Love Tin” many times during each day of the week so that they will keep thoughts of God and God’s work at the center of their lives. Giving what we have for the work of the church, and choosing not to just indulge ourselves with all of that with which we have been blessed, is a tremendous exercise for God’s children of all ages. – Pastor Debra

We plan to offer up the Noisy Offering on a more limited basis going forward. An announcement will be made prior to any Sunday when we plan to hold the "Noisy Offering" event.

Everything Else!

Annual events are provided for children of all ages including a Birthday Party for Jesus, a Children’s Fall Carnival, an Easter Egg Hunt and a Children’s Christmas Tree that is decorated each Advent season by the children.

Children in 3rd-5th grades participate in monthly mission projects around the church and community in iServe. Projects have included the York County CROP Walk, sorting clothing at a community clothing closet, projects around our church, random acts of kindness, spending time with the children at the Children's Attention Home, and taking care of our special care members with yard work, cards, care packages, homemade gifts, and baked treats.
